PETER FRIE Havet / Das Meer
(i.e. The Sea)


The Swedish painter Peter Frie, born in 1947, has chosen a poem of the Swedish poet Gunnar Ekelöf (1907 - 1968) to realise the artist's book Havet / Das Meer - i.e. the sea - with the original text and the German translation by Klaus-Jürgen Liedtke.
The book is hand-set and printed on the letterpress by Klaus Raasch in Hamburg, Germany on 280g Rives cassé art paper using Romulus Antiqua type from the Offizin Haag-Drugulin in Leipzig, Germany. The sheets are folded in the Depping bindery in Münster, Germany to produce the format of 15 x 11,2 inches / 38,2 x 28,5 cm and form a loose-leaf book of 16 pages in a white glazed birchwood slipcase.
Each book contains in the middle on p. 8 and 9 an original monotype in the format 15 x 22,4 inches / 38,2 x 57 cm printed by Atelje Larsen in Helsingborg, Sweden and signed by the artist.
The edition is limited to 50 copies numbered 1/50 - 50/50 and 20 copies a.p. and p.p. signed. Numbers 1/50 - 5/50 each include one painting, oil on canvas 19,7 x 21,6 inches / 50 x 55 cm.
The book is the first part of the tetralogy elementum.
